A new paper by Ferry Koster and Alissa van Zijl, published in Innovation & Management Review, explores the link between Global Value Chain (GVC) embeddedness and technology adoption in organizations. The study was conducted within the framework of the TWIN SEEDS program.
The research builds on the widely used technology-organization-environment (TOE) model, with a special focus on the « environment » component. By examining how sectoral participation in GVCs influences technology choices, the authors bridge two areas of research: global value chains and organizational technology adoption.
- Key finding: GVC embeddedness is positively associated with technology adoption, with sectoral participation explaining a significant share of variation in robotics use. Interestingly, pressure from foreign buyers appears to be a key driver for technology adoption.
These insights broaden our understanding of how external, sector-level dynamics impact organizational decisions, providing fresh perspectives for both researchers and policymakers.
